Retired US Army Sergeant First Class Loyd Edward Brooks, 80, of Fayetteville, died Friday, November 25, 2016.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, December 1, 2016, at 12 noon in Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery with military honors. The family will receive friends following the service.

Loyd was retired from the US Army after 20 years of service including two tours during the Vietnam War.

He is survived by his wife, Gerlinde Brooks; 6 children, Thomas Brooks, Michael Brooks, Michelle Manavi, Robert Morris, Jay Cramer and Pat Boobas; 12 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; and sister, Polly Anderson.

Loyd was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Ruby Brooks; a brother, Bill Brooks; and sister, Charlene Hill.
