Luella Nordan Glendening, 87, died peacefully at the Carolina Inn at Village Green on December 9, 2006.
Born June 15, 1919, in her family's home in Cumberland County, NC, she was the last surviving child of the late Duncan and Juriah Burdette McCorquodale Nordan and lived the majority of her life in Fayetteville, NC.
Luella was an extraordinary woman. Whether nursing, being a wife or mother, or a volunteer at Highsmith or Cape Fear Hospitals, her style was energetic, thorough and focused. She was her family's anchor while her husband served in the United States Army. Her friends were cherished; she was never too busy to lend a helping hand to someone in need. She was a loving and devoted mother whose sacrifices went above and beyond reasonable expectation. She was a long time member of Peace Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by her son, Dale Dean Glendening, Jr., Atlanta, GA, and Jeffrey Douglas, Fayetteville, NC; daughter-in-law, Sue McLeod Glendening, Fayetteville, NC, and five grandchildren. A daughter, Carolyn Sue Holcombe, predeceased her on November 5, 2003.
The family will meet friends on Thursday, December 14, 2006, between 10:15 and 11 o'clock am at First Presbyterian Church with a memorial service to follow at 11 in the chapel. Dr. Rev. John W. Coker, Jr., will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to Fayetteville Urban Ministry, 701 Whitfield Street, Fayetteville NC 28306.
