Mabel (Hardison)
Mclamb
May 4, 1933 – May 21, 2021
Mabel Hardison McLamb, 88, of Hope Mills, NC passed away Friday May 21, 2021 at her residence.
She was born May 4, 1933 in Harnett County to the late Clethia Daniel Hardison and Paul Hardison. Mabel was preceded in death by her husband, William A. McLamb; her daughter, Rebecca Ann McLamb; her son, Timothy Paul McLamb; her sisters, Ruby Hardison Pope, Ruth Hardison Pope, and Hazel Hardison Moore; her brothers, Lutrel Hardison, Elton Hardison, and Relton Hardison; and her son-in-law, Frederick Allen Wilcox.
Mabel is survived by her daughter, Sheila McLamb-Wilcox and her son, William Perry McLamb.
Mabel and William McLamb were two of the original founding members of Cherry Point Baptist Church, where the family remained members until the early 1970's. First Baptist Church soon felt like home, and would continue to play an important role in Mabel's life, even after she left Havelock to be near her daughter and son-in-law. For several years, Mabel taught various craft classes for the Craven County Home Extension Agency. Mabel was a woman of many talents, including basket weaving, needle point, quilting, rug weaving, ceramics, bead work, sewing, upholstery, and antique restoration. She had a beautiful alto voice and in the early 1950's, Mabel sang over the radio in Raleigh. She also sang in the choir for many years at Cherry Point Baptist, often singing solo parts.
Later in life, Mabel, better known as "Mama" to her fans, became a beloved character who appeared in many stories told by her daughter, Sheila. Mama and Cowboy, Mabel's son-in-law Fred, will continue to live on in the hearts and minds of many as their adventures come to life each time a story is retold.
