Obituary

Mr. Mack B. Herring, 85, of Fayetteville died Tuesday, December 15, 2009, at his residence. Mack was born in Sampson Co and moved to Fayetteville as a small boy. He was a WWII veteran having served as a corporal in the Army Air Corps. He was a lifetime member of Person St. UMC; was a longtime salesman with M&O Chevrolet; retired from Cumberland County Social Services; Active member of the Healthplex; he loved to travel with the Roadrunners Travel Club and to restore antique cars and trucks, as he was currently restoring a 1936 Dodge Truck. Most importantly, he had a warm, caring heart and was a loving husband, father, and grandfather that adored his wife, his children, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Friday, December 18, 2009, at 2 pm in Person Street United Methodist Church with Rev. Donna Fowler-Marchant and Rev. Chris Humphreys officiating. The burial will follow at LaFayette Memorial Park. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Evelyn Page Herring of the home; a son, Mack B. Herring Jr. and wife Mary, of Fayetteville; 2 daughters, Patricia Ann Blanton and husband John, of Fayetteville and Darlene McDuffie and husband Mike, of Fayetteville; 7 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Thursday evening at Jernigan Warren Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to either Cape Fear Valley Hospice or to Person Street United Methodist Church.
