Obituary

Retired US Army Major Russell Delbert Cox, 88, of Fayetteville, passed away on Monday, April 12, 2021 at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill.

Russell was born February 3, 1933 in Bloomsburg, PA to the late Bruce M. and Anna Hittle Cox.

He retired from the Army at Ft. Bragg, NC after serving 22 years.  He was a veteran of the Korean War and served two tours in Vietnam.  He was awarded numerous decorations including the Bronze Star.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Shirley Risch Cox; son, David R. Cox of Boynton Beach, FL; daughter, Connie J. McNeil of Fayetteville; five grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home on Sunday, April 18, 2021 from 2 to 5 pm.  A Graveside service will be held on Wednesday, April 21, 2021 at 11am at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery.
