Margaret Dempsey Beard passed away on Monday, February 21, 2022 at her home with her beloved family by her side.

Few people knew that Margaret's "real" name was Leah. She went by many names: Margaret, Memaw, Grandma, Mama, Sweetie, and Feiza.

She grew up on Haymont Hill in Fayetteville during the depression and WWII.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, George and Augusta Dempsey; her siblings, James M. Dempsey, Helen Richards, George F. Dempsey, and Miriam D. Batten.

Her father worked for the railroad and she was able to see many places during hard times with her father.

She graduated from Fayetteville High School, attended Flora McDonald College, and matriculated at Bob Jones University, and Watts Hospital School of Medical Technology. She worked in Goldsboro at the hospital prior to getting married in 1955.

Margaret did not work while her children were growing up, preferring to stay home and be a mother. In 1979 she re-entered the workforce and worked as a medical technologist for Dr.'s J. Harry and Frank Campbell until her retirement in 1987.

She always kept her mind busy with crossword puzzles, knitting, sewing, and word puzzles. She always smiled and had a pleasant demeanor.

Memorial services will be held on Friday, February 25, 2022 at 2 pm at Village Baptist Church. The family will receive friends at the church in the fireside room from 1-2:00 pm on Friday.

She is survived by her husband, Bobby G. Beard of the home; son, Brian Beard of Greensboro; daughter, Susan Palumbo and husband Richard of Asheboro; 3 grandsons, and 4 great-grandchildren.
