Mrs. Margaret Huske deRosset McLean, 89, of Fayetteville, NC died Monday, October 5, 2015 in her residence. Mrs. McLean was born December 23, 1925 in Wilmington, NC. She was the daughter of the late Margaret Huske deRosset and Marsden Bellamy deRosset and the wife of the late Dr. James Wilton McLean.
Margaret graduated from Fayetteville High School and was a graduate of St. Mary's Junior College and The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She was an entrepreneur and founded Margaret McLean Stationers, a business that assisted many a bride-to-be. She was known for her gracious entertaining and amazing ability to turn the simplest ingredients into a gourmet dish. She was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church and served on the Altar Guild there for many years. Margaret was an active and vital part of the community and was a member and volunteer of many community organizations including The Book Club, the Fayetteville Garden Club, the National Society of Colonial Dames of America, the Junior League of Fayetteville, The Assembly, The Cape Fear Assembly, The Supper Club and Highsmith-Rainey Hospital. She will be greatly missed by family and friends.
She is predeceased by her husband of fifty years, Dr. James Wilton McLean.
She is survived by three daughters, Margaret deRosset McLean Gordon (David Gordon) of Watch Hill, Rhode Island, Katherine Mariah McLean Mixon (Willard Mixon, Jr.), of Fayetteville, NC, Hannah Huske McLean Mendelsohn of Fayetteville, NC and a son, James "Jim" Wilton McLean, Jr. (Leigh Anne McLean) of Fayetteville, NC; eight grandchildren, Willard Mixon, III, David McLean Gordon, Margaret deRosset (Derry) Gordon, Chandler deRosset McLean, Anne Catherine Welch McLean, Edith Anne Mendelsohn, Caroline deRosset Mendelsohn, and Hannah Rebecca Mendelsohn; and one great grandchild, Krystopher Carl Ford. Mrs. McLean is also survived by her brother, Marsden Bellamy deRosset and his wife, Anne Hood deRosset and their three children, Anne, Ellen and Bellamy. The family would like to express their deep and heartfelt appreciation to Tricie Burnette, Agnes Barnette, Doris Roundtree, Lakeita Smith, Betty Saunders, Dorethea Jackson, Lonnie Pipkin, Lizzie McLeod and the wonderful staff of Home Instead. We are so grateful for their steadfast love, care, and compassion. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, October 8, 2015 at 11 a.m. at Cross Creek Cemetery with a reception immediately following at the home of Leigh Anne and Jim McLean, 118 Dobbin Avenue. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Cumberland Community Foundation, Inc., 308 Green Street, Fayetteville, NC 28301.
