Obituary

Mrs. Margaret Burleson Christenbury Lee, 90, of Fayetteville, passed away peacefully to be with her Lord on Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2008, in Crystal Bluffs Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Morehead City. Prior to moving to Morehead City, she resided in Fayetteville. Mrs. Lee was the daughter of the late Effie and Carley Burleson of Albemarle. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Earl Thomas Christenbury Sr. in 1961 and James Oattley Lee in 2006; and her youngest daughter, Judy Cotter Kelly in 2005. After retiring from Sears, Margaret remained active in the Fayetteville community with the Lady Lions, the Tar Heel Quilters Guild and many organizations associated with Snyder Memorial Baptist Church. She had a passion for crafts and was an accomplished seamstress who received Master Craft certification in several areas. Turning a hobby into an avocation, she always looked forward to the county fair, where she entered many crafts. She especially enjoyed the Holiday Christmas show, where she displayed and sold quilts, dolls, pillows and other projects she made throughout the year. Each grandchild lovingly received a quilt for high school graduation and as a wedding gift. She leaves behind a son, Earl Thomas Christenbury Jr. and wife Sandra; a daughter, Nancy Christenbury Higdon and husband James, all of Morehead City; stepdaughters, Helen Carter of Fayetteville and Virginia Stewart and husband Wade of Four Oaks; two sisters, Betty Austin of Albemarle and Peggy Koefler of Maumee, Ohio; 14 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 10, 2008, in the chapel at Snyder Memorial Baptist Church, 700 Westmont Drive in Fayetteville. Interment will follow at McPherson Presbyterian Church cemetery, 3525 Cliffdale Road in Fayetteville. Visitation will be held an hour prior to the service in the gathering hall at Snyder Memorial Baptist Church. The family wishes to express their appreciation to the staff of Crystal Bluff Rehabilitation and Health Care in Morehead City for their tender and loving care provided to Mrs. Lee. The family requests memorial contributions be made to Snyder Memorial Baptist Church or to the church or charity of one
