Margaret Gales Miller, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on December 13, 2016 in hospice at Stella Maris Nursing Home in Timonium, MD. She was 96.

Born on July 14,1920, Ella Margaret Gales was the daughter of Mary Ella Byrd and John Henry Gales of Jonesboro, NC. Margaret lived most of her life in Fayetteville, NC, where she had worked for Sears, Roebuck & Co. and Cumberland County Schools in the cafeteria. She was a devoted member of Haymount United Methodist Church where she loved serving others by making meals and arranging flowers, usually from her own garden. She played tennis up into her 70s and won in many senior tournaments.She spent the last four years of her life in Maryland to be close to her great-grandchildren whom she adored.

She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers Danny, Willy, Charlie and John Gales, three sisters Mae, Florence, and Mary Ella, husband Capt. George W. Hamby, Jr. who was killed in action in 1944, second husband of 53 years Dwight Smith Miller, Jr and son George Andrew Hamby.

Margaret is survived by her daughter Dawn Bradshaw and her husband Don Bradshaw of Hermitage, TN, daughter-in-law Charlotte Hamby of Millville, DE, grandchildren, Charla Small and her husband George Small of Easton, MD, Alan Hamby and his wife Lisa Hamby of Finksburg, MD, and great-grandchildren Jacob, Rebecca, Andrew and Silas Hamby and Jonathan and Parker Small.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, December 17 at Haymount United Methodist Church at 1700 Fort Bragg Rd, Fayetteville, NC. Visitation will be at the church at 10a.m. preceding the service at 11a.m. Graveside committal will immediately follow at Lafayette Memorial Park on Ramsey Street.
