Obituary

Margaret Cornelius "Molly" Haigh, 84, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on February 3, 2022. Born May 19, 1937 in Winston-Salem, NC, she was the daughter of James Henry Cornelius and Margaret Shultz Spainhour. The family moved to Charlotte where her father worked for A&P and she graduated from Myers Park High School. She attended Woman's College in Greensboro.

Molly met her husband of 62 years, Charles T. Haigh, Jr. at a Davidson College football game and they married on April 25, 1959 at Hayes Barton Methodist Church in Raleigh. They made their home in Fayetteville where they raised three children. She worked many years for the Cumberland County School System as an aid, and later, after going to school at night while also raising a family, she earned her teacher's degree from Methodist College and taught fifth grade for many years at Cliffdale Elementary School.

Molly had many interests and hobbies over the years including looking for shells and shark's teeth while taking long walks at Topsail Beach, sitting on the porch at their cabin in Weaverville, birding, and collecting and learning about NC pottery. Molly was happiest sitting in a dusty auction hall, easily striking up conversations with other collectors.

Molly was known by many for her convivial personality, and she had many friends with whom she enjoyed spending time. She was active in St. John's Episcopal Church, was a member of various civic and social organizations, and enjoyed participating in Bible Study Fellowship.

Molly is survived by her husband, Charles T. Haigh, Jr. of the home; children Charles T. Haigh III (Cheryl) of Eastover, Margaret Sebens of Juneau, AK, and Katherine Arends (Rob) of Gibsonville; grandchildren Lillian Ruggles of Clinton, Eady Dellinger of Stedman, Bozhi Dellinger of Holly Springs; and Melissa Anne Haigh of Eastover and great-grandchildren Mary T., Silas, Judah, Charlie, Henry, Parker, and Nora. She is also survived by her sister Rosalie Cornelius of Washington, D.C., brother-in-law Don Morris of Pine Crest, FL, as well as beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Lu Ann Morris.

The family would like to thank Diane McKethan, who faithfully cooked and delivered weekly casseroles for many years. We would also like to thank the caregivers at Home Instead who provided loving care to Mom for a number of years. Lastly, we would like to thank 3HC Hospice for their help in the final weeks of her life.

A memorial service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 10th at St. John's Episcopal Church followed by a reception next door at the Kyle House.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cumberland Community Foundation General Fund, 308 Green St., Fayetteville, NC 28301.
