Margaret Elizabeth Wood Newton, 92, of Fayetteville, passed away on Sunday February 12, 2012. She was born April 11, 1919 in Hoke County, NC to the late Thaddeus Graham Wood and Flora Margaret Monroe Wood. She was preceded in death by her husband Edwin David Newton, Sr and a son, Edwin David Newton, Jr; a brother, James G. Wood and sisters Lela W. McInnis and Hazel W. Smith. She was a lifelong member of Galatia Presbyterian Church and a recipient of the Presbyterian Women's Honorary Life Membership. She was a wonderful homemaker, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. The family will receive friends tonight, Tuesday February 14, 2012 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm in Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home, the funeral will be conducted Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at 11:00am in Galatia Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Shuford White & Rev. Beth Faulk officiating, burial will follow in the church cemetery. Survivors include her daughters, Margaret Ann Newton Shannon and husband Eugene H. Shannon of Raeford, NC; Patricia Elizabeth Newton Hurt and husband Jeffery W. Hurt of Dallas, Texas; one sister, Louise Wood Reynolds of Raeford, NC; nine grandchildren: seventeen great grandchildren and two loving caregivers, Julia Zabala and Elaine Minshew.
