Obituary

Born May 19, 1925 to Nicholas and Ida Grainger, Margaret Grainger Owen began her life in Fayetteville, North Carolina.  The oldest of five children, Margaret's life was a testimony to hard-work and helping care for others.

She began working at Fort Bragg with the Army and Air Force Post Exchange at the early age of 16.  She would continue for 31 years rising through the ranks to achieve the position of Retail Manager of the Post Exchange.

Along the way, Margaret met Winston Hay Owen.  They were married in 1963 and they would soon have a son, Greg, in 1965.  Margaret retired from AAFES in 1971.  She and Winston started a real estate management company which continues to this day.

While she remained focused on their real estate business, she became more committed to her church, Snyder Memorial Baptist Church, where she was a faithful member of the Church and Sunday School for over 40 years. A caring servant, Margaret would spend much of her time preparing food and caring for others in their times of need. Later in life Margaret moved to Raleigh, NC to be near her son, Greg. She lived at Magnolia Glen and attended Hayes Barton Baptist Church where she became an active member of the Danielson Sunday School class. She was an avid reader and enjoyed spending time at Wrightsville Beach with her family.

In her many years of service to her community, Margaret was a member of  the Fayetteville Woman's Club, serving as its president.  She also joined a variety of garden clubs over the years to foster her love of flowers.

Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Winston Hay Owen, her mother and father, Ida and Nicholas Grainger, her brothers William Grainger, John Grainger, Robert Grainger and her sister Louise Hogan.

Margaret leaves behind her beloved son Gregory Winston Owen, and wife Mollie of Raleigh, NC, along with her two grandchildren Brewer and John, and her special niece, Casey Hogan Metcalfe, her husband Mike of Memphis, TN and daughter, Cayley.

She now lives with her Heavenly Father.

The family will gather for a burial service on Wednesday, May 5th at 11:00 AM at Lafayette Memorial Park, 2301 Ramsey Street, Fayetteville, NC, officiated by Dr. David Hailey.  Friends and family are welcome.
