Marie Sealey Banks 87, of Tryon NC died peacefully in her home on February 8, 2016. "May the work I have done, speak for me."

Daughter of William Jay Sealey and Virginia Hubbard of Fayetteville, Marie left home after graduating from Linden High School and worked for the FBI in Washington, DC during WWII. She returned to NC and worked for the Veteran's Administration in Winston Salem and Charlotte. A 1950 graduate of Mercy School of Nursing in Charlotte she worked in the emergency room and ended her career of 47 years providing Private Duty nursing with The Official Charlotte Nurses Registry.

During the early 50s Marie worked as an American Red Cross Nurse in the Bloodmobile Program where she met husband George Waddell Banks of Charlotte. Together they raised two children, Judith Irene Banks and Joseph Ivan Banks.

Marie was an active member of East Presbyterian Church. She was involved in her children's activities as a volunteer in Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts, Y Indian Guides, Riding Clubs and the Booster Club at East Mecklenburg High School. Professionally she was a member of the Mercy Alumni Program and District 5 NCNA.

She loved her canine companions and enjoyed tending beautiful flower gardens. She provided many wonderful experiences for her children and instilled in them a love of adventure. She was a mentor for countless children along the way --- many of whom called her Grandma Banks!

Marie is preceded in death by her father William Jay Sealey, mother Virginia Hubbard Sealey, brothers Wilbert James Sealey and Peter Lee Sealey, husband George W. Banks and son Joseph Ivan Banks.

Surviving family members include, daughter Judith Irene Banks of the home, sister Ann Sealey Boswell of Fayetteville and numerous nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, February 13, 2016 at 1:00 pm in the McKay Family Cemetery located in Fayetteville, NC.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: American Heart Association, American Diabetes Association or The American Cancer Society.
