LILLINGTON - Mrs. Marilyn F. McCommons, 74 of Lillington and formerly of Fayetteville, died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013, in Wake Hospice Center. Mrs. McCommons was born Nov. 25, 1938, in Tacoma, Wash. Marilyn was very artistic and known for reaching out to help others in need and having a love for animals. She raised her family as an Air Force wife at her husband's many duty stations. She often took on additional humanitarian works at those locations, such as when she was recreation director at the New Jersey Masonic home. The family will receive friends Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home in Fayetteville. A funeral Mass will be held Monday, Jan. 14, 2013, at 11 a.m. in St Patrick Catholic Church. Another funeral service will be held Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013, at 11 a.m. in R.T. Foard Funeral Home Chapel, 259 East Main St. in Elkton, Md. The burial will follow in Cherry Hill Methodist Church Cemetery in Elkton. Mrs. McCommons was preceded in death by her son, Perry D. McCommons. Surviving are her husband, Harry P. "Mac" McCommons of Lillington; daughter, Debra J. McCommons of Virginia Beach; son, Christopher J. McCommons of Southern Pines; sister, Judy Knutsen of Aberdeen, Wash.; and brothers, Corey Knutsen of Bellevue, Wash., and Scott O'Neal of Des Moines, Wash.; and grandchildren, Zachary McCommons-Martin and Noah McCommons-MartinThe family will receive friends Sunday, January 13, 2013 from 6-8 p.m. at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home.
