Obituary

FAYETTEVILLE - Marion Rita Johnson Hesse, of Fayetteville, passed away Thursday, Jan. 28, 2010, after a brief illness. She was 75 years young. A native of Lakewood, N.J., she was a resident of Fayetteville for almost 50 years. Wife of retired Army Sgt. 1st Class Phillip A Hesse, who died in 1972, she was proud to be an \\"Army wife.\\" She was a fixture on Fort Bragg for many years as the director of Catholic education and chairwoman of the Military Council of Catholic Women during the 1970s. An accomplished artist and craftswoman, she was a significant contributor to the Buy and Bragg Boutique, with many of her works now hanging in the homes of U.S. military personnel throughout the country. More than anything, she was a great mother. She will be missed by many. She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Anne Hesse of Greenville, S.C.; son, Joseph Mario Hesse of Fayetteville; and son, John Walter Hesse, his wife Tina Hesse, and two grandchildren, Emily Catherine and Phillip Kenneth, of St. Louis. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 31, 2010, at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home in Fayetteville, with services to be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 1, 2010, at Main Post Chapel on Fort Bragg. Burial services will be held at Lafayette Memorial Park.
