Marlin Edsel Bailes, 83, of Fayetteville passed away on Friday, August 20, 2021 at Womack Army Hospital at Ft. Bragg, NC.
Marlin was born February 22, 1938, in Clay County, West Virginia to the late Ada Salisbury and Jennings Oatis Bailes. He was preceded in death by a brother, Jennings Oatis Bailes, Jr.
Marlin was a Retired E-9 Chief Master Sergeant with the U.S. Air Force. He entered service at the age of 17 and served over 32 years stationed in twelve different places, including Vietnam. He lived all over the world, but his heart was never far from his home state of West Virginia. Marlin enjoyed spending time at Carolina Beach and treasured time spent with his four grandsons.
Funeral mass will be on Monday, August 30, 2021, at 12 noon at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Fayetteville, NC with Father Sparrow, officiating. Burial will follow at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery with full military honors. The family will receive friends at the church on Monday before mass from 11-12 noon.
Marlin is survived by his beloved wife of 43 years, Buenafe Bailes; daughter, Bernice Bailes Roberson and husband Jason; grandsons, Marlin Graham Roberson, Mitchel Parker Roberson, Clayton Jennings Roberson, and Landry Eric Roberson.
He was a member of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church.
