Obituary

On the morning of March 30, 2016, Marlin passed away peacefully at his home in Fayetteville, North Carolina, after a short battle with lung disease. He was 71 years old.

Marlin Stewart was born in Charleston, Mississippi, on November 17, 1944, to Marlin Stewart, Sr., and Elizabeth Sheley Stewart.

Marlin lived a full life and often shared stories of his life abroad such as his time growing up in the Panama Canal Zone or working undercover in East Germany during the Cold War. Marlin, together with his wife Kay, served faithfully for many years with the Boy Scouts of America and touched countless lives by sharing his distinctive humor and love of the outdoors with the youth in his charge.

Marlin was a veteran Army Special Forces weapons sergeant, a Fayetteville police officer, a design engineer for the Shearon Harris Nuclear Power Plant, and most recently a training engineer for Schneider Trucking International before his retirement.

Marlin was preceded in death by his sister, Susan, and by his mother and father. Marlin is survived by his spouse Kay Stewart, his mother-in-law Audrey Ewing, his sons Marc (Laura), Warren, and James, and his grandchildren Jackson, Elizabeth, and John Marlin.

A memorial service will be held at Friendship Baptist Church located at 3232 Davis Street, Hope Mills, North Carolina, on Monday, April 4, 2016. The service will begin at 6:30 p.m., and the family will receive friends and guests from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at the Friendship Baptist Church Fellowship Hall.
