Mrs. Marguerite Johnson Leggett, 90, died suddenly Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2009. She was born in Hamlet, the youngest of five children of Matthew and Belle Armstrong Johnson. She was preceded in death by her husband, LeRoy A. Leggett, and her son, Joseph Harrison Griffin III. Mrs. Leggett is survived by two daughters, Barbara Anne Harvey (David) and Pamela Elizabeth (Norman) Anderson. She had three grandchildren, Cheryl Denise Harvey, David G. Harvey II and Deborah G. Harvey Mathes. She also leaves four great-grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren; a niece \\"Barbara Jean\\" (Joan) Ingram, and a host of cousins, descendants of her beloved aunt, Ella Marie Lawson. Mrs. Leggett worked for the Government Printing Office in Washington, before retiring to Fayetteville. An accomplished seamstress, artist and jewelry maker, she performed alterations for Leon Sugar's for two years in retirement. In 2008, after a brief illness, Mrs. Leggett moved to Heritage Place, where she blossomed, acquiring new friends, enjoying social activities like never before, and benefiting from a miraculous quality of life. Mrs. Leggett was crowned Queen of the Heritage Place Senior Prom in 2009, and was chosen to represent Heritage Place in the Fayetteville Christmas Parade. She also participated in the 2009 Senior Pageant and was a member of Zeta Amicae. While at Heritage Place, she was joyfully reunited with four grandnieces and two grandnephews: Willie Moore Jr., Wilbur Moore, Dorothea Moore Saunders, Annette Moore Cox, Joan Evans Richardson and Wanda Matthews. The family wants to thank the Bob Miller family and Earlene White for their friendship through the years, and Dina Goodson, Cindy Miller, Maudelle and Bernard Ward, and Sharon Thrift of Heritage Place for their crucial friendship, support and care. A memorial celebration of her life will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2009, at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home in Fayetteville. Mrs. Leggett loved to get dressed up, so please wear bright colors in her honor.
