Marshall Larry
Helms
March 2, 1946 – August 4, 2024
Marshall Larry Helms, 78, of Fayetteville passed away on Sunday, August 4, 2024.
Larry was born on March 2, 1946, in Griffin, Georgia, to the late Emmett and Maebell Allen Helms.
After 27 years of service, Larry retired from the U.S. Air Force. He then worked as a supervisor with Lockheed Martin for 30 years. He was good with his hands and enjoyed using his tools to build many items from plexiglass, wood and metal including jewelry boxes, swords and bullets. Larry was a master craftsman and there was nothing he couldn't build. He had a way with words and would often write evaluation reports and recommendation packets for military recognition and decorations.
One of his favorite pastimes was playing golf and watching westerns, but most of his time he was doing what his wife Belita told him to do. Larry never had a love for dogs; however, he was involved with saving hundreds alongside his wife. He was an avid UNC Basketball fan.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 18, 2024, from 3 to 5 p.m. at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 19, 2024, at 11 a.m. at Jernigan-Warren Chapel. A burial will follow at 12 noon at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery.
Larry was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Belita Margueritta Burns Helms; brother, Lawrence Helms and his sister, Phyllis Gilbert.
He is survived by his sons, Chad Edward Helms and Trevor Scott Helms; grandchildren, Sidney Marshall Reed Helms, Shae Morgan Helms and Charlotte Rose Helms; and brother-in-law, J.T. Gilbert.
Memorials may be made in memory of Larry to the Animal Hospital of Fayetteville (Dr. Garrett), 3109 Ft. Bragg Rd., Fayetteville, NC 28303 www.//ahofnc.org or the Wounded Warrior Project. www.woundedwarriorproject.org
