Obituary

Martha Lee Barefoot Bramble, 79, of Fayetteville died Sunday, February 14, 2016 at The Fountains at The Albemarle in Tarboro. She was born September 4, 1936 in Dunn to Julia Belle Lee and Malcolm Barefoot.

She attended Highsmith-Rainey Nursing School where she received her RN. While she was working at Highsmith Hospital, she met and married her husband, Baylus Cade Bramble of Fayetteville. In 2013 she moved to Tarboro. For over 50 years, she was an active volunteer for numerous charitable organizations, a devoted member of her church, and served many in her community in various capacities on boards and committees. She was preceded in death by her parents: her husband: her sister, Julia Mac House: and her brother, George Archie Barefoot. She is survived by her daughters, Jane Thorne and husband Bill of Tarboro; and Julia Shaw of Fayetteville; her grandchildren, Will Thorne of Durham, Cade Thorne Slepitza and husband Joey of Seabrook, TX, George Thorne of Tarboro, and Martha Shaw of Fayetteville; her sisters, Pat Forbes and husband Ben of Wilson, Jennett Whiteside and husband Blount, and Dorothy Jean Barefoot of Dunn: her beloved nieces and nephews Franklin House, Margaret Smith, Lou Anna Smolowe, Art Barefoot, Anthony Barefoot, Anne Ahl, Tricia Forbes, Ann Tart and Jack Forbes; and several special cousins. Martha's family is grateful for the love and care of the caregivers at Heart to Heart of Tarboro, Carol, Libby, Jackie, Sharmeka and Dearrie; and the staff of The Fountains at The Albemarle. A celebration of Martha Bramble's life will be held on Wednesday, February 17 at 2pm at First Baptist Church in Fayetteville. The family will receive friends at 1pm at the church.
