August 13, 1921 – September 26, 2015
After years of declining health, Martha Massengill Phillips passed away on September 26th. She was a devoted wife and mother who took great pride in her family and home. She was a dedicated member of Peace Baptist Church. She gave many years of service at First Baptist Church-downtown Fayetteville preschool.
She was born August 13, 1921 in Four Oaks, N.C. She is predeceased by her husband of 42 years, James Edwin Phillips as well as her parents Thomas and Della Massengill, brothers; Wilson, James, and Earl Massengill and sisters; Lillian Bunn, Sally Lancaster, Grace Peedin, Margie McRainey.
She is survived by her loving son, James (Jimmy) Bedford Phillips and (Sherri) of Cary, daughter Rebecca Phillips Rasmussen (Phil) of Dumfries, Virginia and her two grandchildren, James Edwin Phillips II of Savannah, Georgia and Gracen Elizabeth Phillips of Cary as well as loving nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to express their appreciation to the caregivers at Green Leaf Care Facility in Lillington as well to those who took their time to visit with her over the years.
A celebration and remembrance of her life will be held at Jernigan Warren Funeral Home Chapel, Fayetteville, N.C. on Friday, October 2nd, 2:00 pm. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the Funeral home, burial will follow in Lafayette Memorial Park on Ramsey Street.
