Obituary

Retired US Air Force Major Marvin Eugene "Gene" Shoupe, 80, of Fayetteville, died Wednesday, May 2, 2012, at the VA Medical Center. Gene was very proud to have served his country in the US Air Force for over 20 years; he was a veteran of both Korea and Vietnam. He loved his career as a pilot and felt privileged to fly and be an aircraft commander of C-130's. After retiring from Pope AFB, Gene worked with the US Postal Service for 10 years. He was a member of Haymount Free Will Baptist Church. Gene loved to remain active through a wide assortment of interests; from hiking mountain trails and rescuing misplaced turtles, to listening to music and dancing, to boating and waterskiing or even roller skating, he found happiness in motion. Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 5, 2012, at 11 o'clock am in Jernigan Warren Chapel with Rev. Dean Kennedy, Rev. Clarence Privette, and Chaplain Smith officiating. The burial will follow at LaFayette Memorial Park on Ramsey Street with military honors. He is survived by his wife, Gloria C. Shoupe of the home; daughter, Rosemarie Haynes and husband Kenneth, of Mill Spring, NC; son, Charles "Chuck" Shoupe and wife Melissa, of Harrisburg, NC; 4 grandchildren, Lisa Marie Haynes, Carson Shoupe, Erica Shoupe, and Sarah Shoupe; a sister-in-law, Mary Cardwell of Richmond, VA; nephews Chip Cardwell, Greg Cardwell, and niece Natalie Harden. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Association National Office, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601. Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 5, 2012, at 11 o'clock am in Jernigan Warren Chapel with Rev. Dean Kennedy, Rev. Clarence Privette, and Chaplain Smith officiating. The burial will follow at LaFayette Memorial Park on Ramsey Street with military honors. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 7 to 9 pm at Jernigan Warren Funeral Home.
