Mary G. 'Hope" Campbell passed away on February 12, 2023. She was born on March 15, 1931, and raised outside of Whiteville, NC. She married the love of her life, Frank Highsmith Campbell, in October 1956.
Hope was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Frank Campbell, her mother Thelma J. Gurkin, her four brothers, Clyde Gurkin, Cecil Gurkin, Earl Brown Gurkin, Worth Gurkin, and her two sisters Ursel Yates, and Thelma "Gray" Anderson.
Hope is survived by her son, Franklin Campbell, wife Sophia; daughter, Anne Watts; husband Greg; grandchildren, Alexa Campbell and Caelan Watts and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Hope was a nurse anesthetist and worked at Duke Hospital where she met her husband Dr. Frank Campbell. They both did their residency in New Orleans and moved to Fayetteville NC in 1956 to work at Highsmith Hospital.
Hope was an accomplished golfer holding many Women's State Championships. When she wasn't playing golf, you would find her in her yard planting flowers as she was an avid gardener, or painting.
Hope was vivacious and full of life. She loved animals and always had pets. She especially loved her cats. Most of all she loved her family.
A funeral service will be held at Highland Presbyterian Church, Fayetteville, NC on February 16th at 12:00. The family will have visitation from 11:30-12:00 preceding the service.
