FAYETTEVILLE - Mary Kennedy Hollingsworth, age 93, died Thursday, June 2, 2016, at her home in Fayetteville.

An Urn Committal Service will be held on Thursday, June 30th, 2016 at 10am in Lafayette Memorial Park on Ramsey Street with Rev. A. Edward Beddingfield, Jr officiating.

A celebration of life was held at 3 pm Saturday June 4, 2016 in First Baptist Church, 201 Anderson Street, Fayetteville NC with Dr. Mike Cogdill and Rev. A. Edward Beddingfield, Jr. officiating. The family will received friends at the church prior to the service from 2-2:45 pm.

She is survived by her beloved daughter and son-in-law, Helen Carter and Robert Shouse, of Fayetteville; her sister-in-law, Dot Kennedy of Fayetteville; and a number of nieces and one nephew, great-nieces and great-nephews, and several cousins.

She was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church where she served the Lord as Sunday School teacher, in the Women's Missionary Union, and Church Trustee at various times. She was a member of the Fidelis Sunday School class.

Mary was born in Fayetteville to the late Charles Edward Kennedy and Alice Reid Kennedy.

Mary was valedictorian of Fayetteville High School Class of 1939. She retired from Civil Service after 43 years, with 35 years as Secretary to the Commander of Womack Army Hospital. After retirement, she took classes at Methodist College and was active in local chapters of National Association of Retired Federal Retirees and AARP.
