Obituary

Mary Ann Lawing was born in Caledonia, New York on September 14 and died on November 13th, 2016 in Denver, Colorado.

Preceded in death by husband, Gene Lawing, and son, Gene Lawing Jr. survived by her children Gary Lawing and Nancy Woodruff; 2 grandchildren, Michelle Olsen and Elise Bishop, sister Joan Lisena and Helen Rooney. Preceded in death by her father, Louis Marion and mother Vivian Sarni Marion, brothers Bob and Joe Marion, sisters Carmen M Estey and Eva M Oughterson.

Mary Ann went to Rochester Institute of Business in Rochester, New York and eventually enlisted in the Army during WWII. She was stationed in Camp Kilmer, New Jersey and was assigned to the USAT Thomas Berry ship and completed a total of six crossings over the Atlantic ocean. She met her future husband at Camp Kilmer and was married for over 62 years, to Gene Lawing, eventually residing in Fayetteville, after he retired from the Army. Mary Ann was a devoted wife, mother and an active volunteer with over 30 years at Womack Army Hospital, plus volunteering in Colorado after moving there to be near her daughter and grandchildren. Her kind spirit will be missed by many and forever loved by all.

The Celebration of Life will be held at Jernigan Warren Chapel at 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 19. A private family burial will be held on Monday. The family will receive friends following the service Saturday at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The North Carolina State Veterans Home.
