Fayetteville, Mary Walsh Massingale, 87, born April 7, 1924 in Camden, S.C. died peacefully at her home, Tuesday September 20, 2011. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Vardelle Walsh III and Mary Eliza Lafitte; husband of 58 years, Furman Broadus Massingale, Jr. of Fayetteville; two sons, Furman "Bo" Walsh Massingale of Fayetteville and Dr. Thomas Glenn Massingale of Stanfield, N.C. She is survived by her grandson, Tyler Thomas Massingale and her daughter-in-law Melinda Johnson Massingale, both of Stanfield; a step sister Betty Walsh McNulty Treacy and a cousin, John Laffitte both of Columbia, S.C. Mary is also survived by special friends Col. Jack Kaplan and Selina Thompson, and numerous other friends whom she loved so much. Mary graduated from Furman University and was a retired school teacher having taught at Dreher High School in S.C. and in the Fayetteville City School System for many years. She was a member of Hay Street United Methodist Church, Highland Country Club, the D.A.R., and Social 25. Services will be held Thursday, September 22, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. Hay Street United Methodist Church. Rev. Kong Namkung officiating.
