Mrs. Catherine McMillan, of Fayetteville, age 98, passed away Sunday, Nov. 30, 2014.
She was born and raised on the farm in White Oak until 1989, when she moved to Fayetteville along with her husband, Austin. She attended White Oak School. At the age of 16, she married Austin, and of this union was born six children.
Catherine worked six years in the White Oak School cafeteria, followed by employment with Breezewood Christian Child Care Center in Fayetteville. While living in White Oak on the farm, she worked diligently as a farmer's wife.
She was loved by everyone who knew her. She enjoyed her friends, family and her church at White Oak and at Breezewood, where she lived a dedicated life each and every day.
Catherine is survived by five daughters, Hilda Perkins of Winston-Salem, Betty Allee of Fayetteville, Peggy Galloway and husband Dave of Harkers Island, Faye Gillikin and husband Ronnie of Beaufort and Brenda Godfrey and husband Ralph of Winston-Salem; a son, David O'Neal McMillan and wife Priscilla of Fayetteville; 19 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren.
Catherine was preceded in death by her husband of 75 years, Austin McMillan; a grandson, Timothy Dunlap; a great-grandson, Jonathon Morris; five sons-in-law, Buddy Suggs, Henry Perkins, Harry Dunlap, Eddie Barnes and James Allee; father, Charlie Thomas Heaton; mother, Maggie Thomas Heaton; four brothers, Johnny, Fletcher, Horace and Milton Thomas; and two sisters, Maude Plesants and Joyce Fenton.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight, Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2014, Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home in Fayetteville.
The service is at noon Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2014, in Breezewood Church in Hope Mills, with viewing and burial at 2 p.m. Wednesday at White Oak Family Worship Center.
Flowers accepted, or memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
