Mrs. Mary Lee Battie was born on July 4, 1940, in Newton Grove, to the late Pearlina and Charlie Sinclair. On August 16, 2021 at 7:00 a.m., she was called home.

Mary received her education in Wayne County Public Schools and later received an Associates Degree in Business from Tarrant County Jr. College in Ft. Worth TX. On June 12, 1970, Mary married the love of her life, James Battie, and shared over 51 glorious years with him. After retirement they settled in Fayetteville NC and in 2004, Mary joined Berean Baptist Church where she served as an active member until her health declined.

She was preceded in death by their son, DeWayne Smith and her brother, Roland Sinclair.

Mary leaves to cherish her precious memories, her beloved husband, James Battie; 1 aunt, Adelle Virgil (Dunn,NC); her sister, Blanch Sinclair (Clinton, NC); her brother, Charlie Sinclair, Jr. (Miami, FL); 2 granddaughters, Taytana Smith (Fayetteville, NC) and Duwana Smith (Bethlehem, PA); 4 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 23, 2021 at Berean Baptist Church at 12:30 p.m. Burial will follow at Sandhillls State Veterans Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, August 22, 2021 at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home.
