Mary Edna Woody Smith, 89, of Fayetteville passed away on Thursday, July 29, 2021 at her residence with her beloved family by her side.

Mary was born January 15, 1932 in Swain County, NC to the late Lillie Mae Allen and William Worth Woody. She was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Woody. Mary was a faithful member of Peace Presbyterian Church. She was a 1953 graduate of Baptist School of Nursing at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem. Mary was a Registered Nurse at the VA Medical Center for 33 years. She volunteered as a nurse at the Care Clinic. She also taught in the Nursing Assistant program at FTCC.

Funeral services will be held at 2pm on Monday, August 2, 2021 at Peace Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow in Lafayette Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the Church Parlor on Monday from 1-2:00 pm.

Mary is survived by her husband of 65 years, Wayne Smith; son, Anthony Wayne Smith and Dianne; sister, Marguerite Deaderick and husband David; brother, Charles Hembree and wife Francescio, Wendell Woody and wife Betty; granddaughter, Melissa Renee Smith.

The family would like to thank Healthkeeperz Hospice especially Brittany, Betty, and Pastor Fred for their loving care and compassion.
