Mary Ann Tart Lauver, 76, of Erwin, passed away on Sunday, February 5, 2023, at her residence with her family by her side.

Mary Ann was born on December 1, 1946, in Fort Sill, Oklahoma to the late James B. Gillen and Ruth Hayes Gillen.

She was a proud 1965 graduate of Fayetteville High School, and a graduate of Fayetteville State University, where she received her degree in education. She retired from Harnett Central High School as a Special Education Teacher, however, most of her teaching career was at Pine Forest High School.

While in college and afterwards, Mary Ann worked in the canteen at Good Year Tire Company. She was an avid NC State Basketball Fan and loved Jim Valvano. She was known for her love of Christmas, family, cooking and decorating.

She touched a lot of lives and if she knew you, she fiercely loved you.

She was preceded in death by her son, Dennis Tart and her sister, Rita G. Archbell.

Surviving are her husband, James Lauver; children, Celeste Railey-Lauver (T. J. Faircloth), Dayne Railey-Lauver, Cathy Tart (Jimmy Currie) and Cindy Tart; sister, Linda G. Cashwell (Jerry); brother, Charles Gillen (Bebe); granddaughter, Amber Tart; great grandchildren, Destiny Kenleigh and Everleigh Faircloth; sister by heart, Ina McBryde and her son, Victor.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, February 9, 2023, at 2 p.m. at Jernigan-Warren Chapel. Burial will follow in Lafayette Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home.
