FAYETTEVILLE— Mrs. Mary Teague Thomas, of Fayetteville, passed away Thursday, Sept. 27, 2012.
She was born June 29, 1922, in Taylorsville. She was preceded in death by her husband of almost 50 years, Henry Glenn Thomas.
They made their life together in Fayetteville for more than 40 years.
Mary was the oldest child of Lawrence H. Teague and Laura Jane Little Teague. She also was preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn Teague Johnson; two brothers, Wade Teague and Claude Teague; and ad brother-in-law, Dare Pritchard.
Survivors include a brother, James Hal Teague and wife Bonnie P. Teague; a sister, Mabel Teague Pritchard; and a sister-in-law, Mary Barnes Teague; nieces, Elizabeth Ann Pritchard Deal (Bob), Linda Pritchard Godfrey, Kathy Teague Williams (Mike), Kelly Teague Bumgarner (Christy), Joni Teague Barrie (John); nephews, Steve Johnson (Angela), Charles Johnson (Ellen), Kenneth Pritchard (Leslie) and Mike Teague. She also is survived by a a great-niece, a number of great-nephews and her extended Thomas family.
She was a graduate of Davis Hospital School of Nursing in Statesville and served many in her 45 years of nursing, 24 of them in the Cumberland County Health Department, where she served as director of nursing. She was honored to be a lifetime member of both the American Nurses Association and the N.C. Public Health Association. Mary was proud to serve on the Board of Trustees of the Cape Fear Valley Health System.
Mary was a very special southern lady, obedient daughter, dedicated wife and a loving aunt. She was very much loved by family, treasured as a friend and admired by co-workers.
She was member of St. James Lutheran Church for more than 40 years and a loyal servant to her Lord and her church.
Mary was a keeper of God's bounty of beautiful roses. Her rose garden was shared by many; no matter the occasion, her baskets and buckets were were always filled with the beauty of her efforts.
Mary loved, lived and shared her life and faith. Her keen sense of humor and sharp wit will be very much missed by all who knew and loved her
Pallbearers serving will be Kenneth Pritchard, Steve Johnson, Charles Johnson, Phil Wallace, Tim Knight and Bob Raynor.
Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 2, 20212, at St. James Lutheran Church, Burial will be in Cumberland Memorial Gardens immediately following the service. Visitation will be from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the church, and the family will receive friends at other times at her residence.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to St. James Lutheran Church, Parlor Fund or Building Fund, P.O. Box 53276, Fayetteville, NC 28305.The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service 1:30pm – 2:30pm Tuesday, October 2, 2012 at St. James Lutheran Church and other times at her residence.
A Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, October 2, 2012 at 2:30 p.m. in St. James Lutheran Church,
Burial will follow in Cumberland Memorial Gardens.
