Mrs. Mary R. "Mama Ward" Ward, 81, of 3056 Cedar Creek Road, Fayetteville, died Tuesday, May 15, 2007, in her home. Mrs. Ward was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend to everyone. She was a member of Northwood Temple for 32 years, a member of Main Sanctuary Sunday School Class and a member of the Prayer and Benevolence Committee. She was known throughout the Fayetteville community as "Mama Ward" and also as "The Cake Lady." Mrs. Ward was a retired employee of the Cumberland County school system, having worked at Cliffdale Elementary and Howard Hall Elementary schools. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in Northwood Temple with Dr. John Hedgepeth officiating. Burial will follow in Lafayette Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight, May 17, 2007, at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home in Fayetteville. She is survived by her daughter, Kathryn Ward Suggs and husband Carl Jake of Fayetteville; her sisters, Pauline McLamb and Sue Naylor, both of Bladen County; grandson, Jason Suggs; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roland Boyd Ward; and her son, Roland Boyd Ward Jr. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Northwood Temple, 4200 Ramsey St., Fayetteville, NC 28311.
