Mary Melvin White, 88, of Fayetteville, NC, passed away Thursday, August 9, 2012 at The Oaks in Huntersville, NC. Mary is survived by son Carl B White III (Ben) and Heike S White of Fayetteville and daughter Ann M White and Margaret S Campbell of Davidson, NC. Mary was preceded in death by husband Carl B White Jr, sister Ethel M Guins of Erwin, NC and parents Vance and Eula Melvin of Erwin, NC. Beloved nieces and nephews of the MacDonald family of Fort Lauderdale FLA and the Lewis family of Fayetteville were special blessings to Mary and Carl. Mary lived a mission of service to family, God, and friends, and to her patients as a registered nurse for 30 years at the VA Hospital in Fayetteville. She was a proud alumnus of the Highsmith Hospital Nursing Program and maintained life-long friendships with her fellow nurses from the VA, Highsmith, and the US Army Nurse Cadet Corps. Also, "Mom" and "Aunt Mary" was a marvelous cook and delighted in serving anyone at her table the best Southern cuisine. The First Baptist Church of Fayetteville was her church home for over 60 years and will conduct her memorial service at 11 am on Monday, August 13, 2012. Visitation with family and friends will be held one hour before the memorial service at 10 am in the Church Memorial Lounge. Burial will follow the memorial service at Lafayette Memorial Park on Ramsey St. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials go to the Spoken Word Ministries, Inc.
