US Army Retired LTC Max Albert Clapp,85, of Fayetteville, passed away on Saturday, July 19, 2014 at the NC State Veterans Home in Fayetteville.
Graveside services will be held on Thursday, July 24, 2014, at 10 am in Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery in Spring Lake with Military Honors.
Max was born August 20, 1928, in Decatur County, Indiana to the late Charles and Edith Clapp. He was a graduate of Purdue University and a career US Army Officer. The decorations Max was awarded while in the Army include: Legion of Merit, Bronze Star with V Device, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Gold Star, Vietnam Armed Forces Honor Medal, Vietnam Civil Actions Unit Citation, Vietnam Special Forces Jump Wings, and Vietnam Service Medal.
In retirement, Max enjoyed working out at the Healthplex and visiting with his friends.
Max was preceded in death by his wife, Helen, and son, Mark Clapp.
He is survived by his sons, Max Clapp, Jr. of Merritt Island, FL and Michael Clapp and wife Sherry of Lexington, SC; 2 brothers, Charles and James Clapp; 2 sisters, Helen Gilles and Ruby Poole; 5 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to one's favorite charity.
