Michael John Lysek, 74, of Fayetteville, passed away peacefully at his residence on Saturday, July 25, 2026.

Born on July 4, 1952, in Buffalo, New York, Michael was the son of the late Chester Raymond Lysek and Frances Kromer Lysek.

Michael proudly served his country in the United States Army, retiring with the rank of Master Sergeant (MSG) after 23 years of dedicated service. Following his military career, he continued serving his community through the City of Fayetteville, where he retired from the Accounting Department.

Michael enjoyed restoring antique automobiles and riding his beloved Harley-Davidson motorcycle. He had a lifelong love for dogs, was an avid shooting enthusiast, and found great satisfaction in pursuing his many hobbies. He will be remembered for his strong work ethic, dedication to his family, and the friendships he built throughout his life.

In addition to his parents, Michael was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 49 years, Wendy Rytting Lysek; and his siblings, Susan, David, and Daniel.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his daughter, Michele McCullough (William Stebbins);  his grandchildren, Kristin, Justin, Trever, Kelsey, and Timmy; his sisters, Charlotte and Christine; and his faithful four-legged companions, Landon and Daisey.

A Graveside service will be held on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at 2 pm at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery at Ft. Bragg.  

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Fayetteville Animal Protection Society (FAPS).
