Michael Alan Welter, 69, of Fayetteville, passed away on Thursday, December 28, 2023, at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill.

Michael was born August 4, 1954, in Chicago, IL to Clarence and Donna Johnson Welter.

Michael was a retired MSG of the US Army where he served in the 3rd, 5th and 7th Special Forces Groups.  After retirement, he was a Science and Chemistry teacher for Cumberland County and Scotland County Schools.  Michael had a dry sense of humor and loved teaching and serving his country.  But his greatest love was his grandkids.

He is preceded in death by his brother, David Welter and his grandson, Wyatt Minton.

Michael is survived by his wife of 44 years, Barbara Welter; two daughters, Meredith Kimble (Jack) and Lauren Cabbagestalk; sister, Susan Welter; sister-in-law, Beverly Welter; grandchildren, Justine and Clayton Gorell; aunts, Peachy and Kathie; and nieces, Angela, Sarah, and Emily.

A Memorial service with Military Honors will be held on Wednesday, January 3, 2024, at 3pm in the Jernigan-Warren Chapel.
