Mrs. Mildred \\"Millie\\" Chadwick Pate of Fayetteville, died Saturday, Aug. 29, 2009, after a brief illness.
Born Sept. 11, 1926, she was the youngest of eight children born to the late Robert Lee Chadwick and Cora Cowan Chadwick.
Millie graduated from Fayetteville High School in 1943, and worked for First Citizen's Bank until her marriage. On Aug. 8, 1946, she was united in marriage with Joseph Warren Pate Jr., who preceded her in death on April 21, 1985.
They enjoyed almost 40 years of marriage, working together first at Pate Fuel Co., and later for many years at Pate Homes.
Millie and J.W. were charter members of the Cotillion Club. They volunteered for many years in the Contact Telephone Ministry. After her husband's death, Millie worked faithfully for 14 years at Fayetteville Urban Ministry.
She was a lifelong member of Hay Street United Methodist Church, and a charter member of the Fellowship Sunday school class.
She is survived by two daughters, Susan Pate Greenwood and husband Douglas of New Bern, and Joan Pate Shaver and husband Gary of Fayetteville; a grandchild, Cara Chadwick Abe of Wilmington; and a sister, Helen Chadwick Davis of Montgomery, Alabama.
A memorial service will be held at Hay Street United Methodist Church on Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2009, at 2 p.m., followed by a reception in the Family Life Center of the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to either Hay Street United Methodist Church or Fayetteville Urban Ministry.
