Mildred Laluce
Planck Williams
July 15, 1915 – December 10, 2014
LaLuce Planck Williams was born in 1915 and died on December10, 2014 at
the age of 99, a natural age related death. Her last yearwas spent at
the Harmony Hall assisted living facility in Columbia,Maryland.
She was the daughter of Helen and Carl G. Planck ofCharleston, SC. She
spent much of her childhood in Florida in the Lake Walesarea. She won a
full scholarship in statewide competition and attendedFlorida State
College for Women, a predecessor of Florida StateUniversity. She was a
member of the Delta Zeta sorority and a member of Phi KappaPhi, Kappa
Delta Pi, and Delta Kappa Gamma honor societies. Shegraduated in 1935
and obtained a teaching position in North Carolina, whereshe met Arlie
Williams. They married in 1939.
After the war, LaLuce and family settled in Fayetteville,where she
became a teacher at Terry Sanford High School. She taughtbiology and
was head of the science department. Governor Terry Sanfordappointed her
to serve on the North Carolina Textbook Commission, where sheworked to
improve the quality of textbooks for schools in the state.She retired
in 1977 after teaching in Fayetteville for 24 years.
LaLuce is survived by a brother, Carl Planck, Jr. ofMelbourne, FL, her
son Richard (Rick) Williams and wife Virginia of Columbia,MD, and
grandchildren Kim Williams of San Carlos, CA, and KevinWilliams of
Columbia, MD. She was predeceased by her husband ArlieWilliams, her son
Wendell Williams, and her sister Jeanette Planck Hard.
A graveside service will be held at Lafayette Memorial Parkon Monday,
December 15 at 3:00 PM.
LaLuce was a member of the Daughters of the AmericanRevolution and
Highland Presbyterian Church. Her teaching touched the livesof many
residents of Fayetteville. Memorial donations may be made toa charity
of your choice or to the Highland Presbyterian Churchbuilding fund.
