Obituary

Mama Steve passed away peacefully on October 9th.

Mildred was born February 5, 1923 in Dunn, NC.  She married R. Glenn Stevens November 17, 1945.  Mildred was a seamstress and day care provider in her home.  She learned how to sew from her mother-in-law.  Mildred ran a day care center in her home for 55 years and retired at the age of 80.  She cared for children from infancy until they began school, then cared for them during school breaks and summers.  She often had a waiting list for openings.  She also made clothing for many customers while taking care of children.  For several years, she and Glenn portrayed Mr. & Mrs. Clause in the Fayetteville Christmas parade.  She and Glenn were longtime members of Peace Presbyterian Church.  Mildred is proceeded in death by her husband, Glenn, her brothers Otis Pope (Mary), Charles Pope (Juanita) and Robert Pope (Nell) and her sisters Helen Godwin (Harold) and Lurea Williams (Miles).  Mildred is survived by sons Edward (Pam) of Fayetteville and Richard (Carolyn) of Wichita, KS, seven grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.  Viewing will be held at Jernigan-Warren on Tuesday from 6:00 – 8:00 pm.  Funeral services will be held at Peace Presbyterian church on Wednesday at 1:00.   Internment at Lafayette Park Cemetery following the service. Memorials may be made to Peace Presbyterian Church, Fayetteville N.C.
