Obituary

FAYETTEVILLE - Retired Army Sgt. Major Milo M. Reckerd, 84, of 2511 Fordham Drive, died Thursday, May 21, 2009, in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. He was an Army veteran of World War II and the Vietnam War. Mr. Reckerd is survived by his wife, Betty K. Reckerd of the home; son, Jerry Reckerd and wife Frances of Cary; daughters, Linda Ballard and husband Davy of Hope Mills, and Mary Lou Rhodes and husband Gary of Fayetteville; grandchildren, Geoffrey Reckerd, Lauren Chappell and husband Scott, Kimberly Hammons and husband Brent, Kelly Ballard, Wesley and Matthew Rhodes; and great-grandson, Cody Hammons. Graveside services with full military honors will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, May 25, 2009, in Lafayette Memorial Park with Chaplain Eric Leetch and the Rev. Nick Smith officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the National Parkinson Foundation Inc., Office of Development, 1501 NW 9th Ave., Bob Hope Road, Miami, FL 33136-1494. Services entrusted to Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home of Fayetteville.
