Murphy J. Hancock
FAYETTEVILLE - Murphy J. Hancock, 88, of 704 Glensford Drive, died Friday, April 3, 2009, in Carroll S. Roberson Hospice Center. Mr. Hancock was a retired master sergeant with the U.S. Army and a World War II and Korea veteran. He retired also in civil service with the Fort Bragg Dental Lab. He was a member of Lafayette Baptist Church for more than 30 years, where he sang in the choir. He was a senior volunteer with Cape Fear Valley Medical Center for 18 years, an assistant Boy Scout group leader and a participant in the Barber Shop Quartet Society for 15 years. He was also an amateur photographer, and an original dance partner for Ginger Rogers. Mr. Hancock was a man who loved music, dance, life and his family. The family will receive friends at 2p.m. on Tuesday, April 7, 2009, in Lafayette Baptist Church with a memorial service following at 2:30p.m. in the sanctuary with Dr. Brian A. Lee Sr. officiating. Mr. Hancock is survived by a son, Michael Francis Hancock and fiancee Toni Sullivan and family; a daughter, Linda D. Hancock of Charleston, S.C.; and a younger brother, Lindsay Hancock and wife Wanda of Hudson, N.H. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lafayette Baptist Church, 501 Hope Mills Road, Fayetteville, NC 28304, or the Carrol S. Roberson Hospice Center, 2431 Legion Road, Fayetteville, NC 28301.
