Murphy J. Hancock FAYETTEVILLE - Murphy J. Hancock, 88, of 704 Glensford Drive, died Friday, April 3, 2009, in Carroll S. Roberson Hospice Center. Mr. Hancock was a retired master sergeant with the U.S. Army and a World War II and Korea veteran. He retired also in civil service with the Fort Bragg Dental Lab. He was a member of Lafayette Baptist Church for more than 30 years, where he sang in the choir. He was a senior volunteer with Cape Fear Valley Medical Center for 18 years, an assistant Boy Scout group leader and a participant in the Barber Shop Quartet Society for 15 years. He was also an amateur photographer, and an original dance partner for Ginger Rogers. Mr. Hancock was a man who loved music, dance, life and his family. The family will receive friends at 2p.m. on Tuesday, April 7, 2009, in Lafayette Baptist Church with a memorial service following at 2:30p.m. in the sanctuary with Dr. Brian A. Lee Sr. officiating. Mr. Hancock is survived by a son, Michael Francis Hancock and fiancee Toni Sullivan and family; a daughter, Linda D. Hancock of Charleston, S.C.; and a younger brother, Lindsay Hancock and wife Wanda of Hudson, N.H.
