Obituary

FAYETTEVILLE – Nancy "Fig" Diggs Avrette, 60, went to be with the Lord Monday, Dec. 2, 2013, with her family by her side. She passed away following a lengthy hospital stay. Nancy was born in Wadesboro, NC, and grew up there, graduating from Bowman High School in 1972. She was a warm, caring person who was kind to everyone and always ready to help someone. She never met a stranger. She had no enemies. Music of all kinds, especially beach music, was a source of great pleasure for Nancy. She enjoyed the beach and loved shagging. Reading was a favorite pastime. She regularly read the newspaper from cover to cover. Nancy had a strong faith in Jesus Christ, and she lived it. She lived her life to the fullest. Anthony "Big O" Avrette, her husband of eleven and a half years, was the love of her life. They were best friends and did everything together. Nancy was a long-time member of Arran Lakes Baptist Church, where she was involved in the children's ministry. She worked with the Department of Social Services for 20 years. She was predeceased by her parents, Willie and Margaret Diggs; a brother, Tommy Diggs; and sisters, Kathy Diggs and Joy Diggs. In addition to her husband, Nancy is survived by a brother, Jimbo Diggs, of Mooresville, NC; and two sisters, Debbie Cox, of Longs, SC, and Mary Anne Currie, of Richmond, VA; a step-daughter, Kristie Meadows and husband, Brandon, of Lumberton; a step-son, Brian Avrette and wife, Catherine, of Pensacola, FL; grandchildren Mikayla Meadows, Kynadie Meadows, Christopher Avrette and Ryan Avrette; and loving in-laws, Howard and Grace Avrette, of Lillington. Funeral services will be Thursday, Dec. 5, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Arran Lakes Baptist Church, 1130 Bingham Drive, with the Rev. Jeff Isenhour officiating. Burial will follow in Cumberland Memorial Gardens on Raeford Road. A visitation will be held Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2013, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home.
