Mrs. Nancy Emmaline White, 88, of Fayetteville, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2014, in Haymount Rehabilitation and Nursing Home.
Graveside services will be held Monday, Sept. 29, 2014 at 11 a.m. in Post Cemetery on Fort Bragg with Chaplain Archie Barringer, officiating. The family will receive friends following the graveside service.
Predeceased by her husband, James White, who was a career Special Forces master sergeant; and her son, Hal, who was a creative novelist.
Survivors include her daughters, Vicky Secrist and Linda Whittemore, both of whom were professional counselors. Grandchildren include Capt. Benjamin Secrist, U.S. Air Force, Claire Secrist, Dylan Lane and Trevor Johnson. Great-grandchildren include Rosemary Lane and Holly Kennedy.
Nancy, born in Wilkes County, was a direct descendant of Elihu Yale, a wealthy Puritan merchant, for whom Yale University was named.
During World War II, she served the war effort by being a "Rosie the Riveter" in Grand Rapids, Mich., at B-29 Assembly Plant. She loved listening to the music of Ralph Stanley and The Clinch Mountain Boys. A Graveside Service will be held, Monday, September 29, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Post Cemetery, Ft. Bragg.
