FAYETTEVILLE - Mrs. Nelle Hollingsworth Reaves, of Fayetteville, died in her home Friday, Nov. 13, 2009. Mrs. Reaves was born in Patrick County, Va., on Sept. 19, 1910. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Leonard E. Reaves Jr.; and a son, Robert Reaves. After receiving her registered nurse degree, she met L.E., her husband, whom she married in 1933. He was a registered pharmacist, and together they operated Reaves Drug Stores in Fayetteville for 40 years. They were both charter members of Haymount United Methodist Church. Nelle spent her life well . raising six children, encouraging their education, ensuring their health and pointing the way to spiritual life. She loved these words as she reflected daily on the Lord: \\"Beyond the glorious sunset Beyond the farthest star I have a home awaiting Purchased by His scars What a welcome awaits me In that place so far, yet near Sometimes I grow weary With all the problems here You see, I feel the tug of glory Eternity's in my heart The Holy Spirit draws me homeward Where life will be a brand-new start So, if you hear that I've gone Don't bow your head in despair I'll be waiting on the Father's porch Soon to welcome you there\\" Nelle is survived by her daughters, Harriette A. Reaves of Fayetteville and Dorothy R. Ball of Roswell, Ga.; sons, Leonard E. Reaves III of Fayetteville, Thomas B. Reaves of the home and Franklin \\"Bing\\" Reaves of Jacksonville, Fla.; a sister, Mary Jo Denton of Raleigh; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Haymount United Methodist Church, 1700 Fort Bragg Road, Fayetteville, NC 28303. Graveside services will be at 2p.m. today, Sunday, Nov. 15, 2009, at Lafayette Memorial Park on Ramsey Street conducted by the Rev. Tim Gore. The family will receive friends following the service.
