Mrs. Nellie Elizabeth Barnes, of Fayetteville, was born in Ursa Township, Illinois, on March 16, 1908, to James H. and Ann Baker Frazier. She attended Golden and Ursa schools and graduated from Mendon Township High School.
She married Henry Lewis Barnes on Oct. 10, 1928, in the home of the Rev. L.C. Mauck in Quincy, Illinois. She was a member of Ursa Christian Church and was a member of the Golden Rule Class. She taught Sunday school for many years.
She was a member of Adams County Home Extension since 1946 and served on the county board for four years. She served as chairman of Ursa Township for 10 years for the Cancer Society.
Surviving are her daughter, Barbara Ann Copeland; son-in-law, William C. Copeland; and granddaughter, Amy McLean and her husband, Derrick. She has a great-granddaughter, Hannah Williams.
She was predeceased by a son, Dean; husband, Henry Lewis Barnes; and a grandson, John White.
She enjoyed gardening, sewing, and reading.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home, Sunday, Dec. 3, 2006, from 6:30 pm to 8 pm.
The funeral will be Friday, Dec. 8, 2006, at 2:00 pm in Hunter Funeral Home in Mendon, Illinois. The burial will follow in New Providence Cemetery in Ursa, Illinois.
