Norman F. Smith, Jr., 84, of Fayetteville, passed away peacefully on Saturday May 30, 2026, at Duke Medical Center with his loving family by his side.
Born on December 21, 1941, in Cumberland County, Norman was the son of the late Norman F. Smith, Sr. and Mary Agnes Barnette Smith.
Norman shared a loving marriage with his wife, Joan E. Smith, for nearly 63 years. Their wedding anniversary would have been celebrated on June 14. He treasured time spent with family and friends and was happiest when creating memories with those he loved. Norman enjoyed family vacations, trips to Las Vegas, and hosting gatherings that brought family and friends together.
Norman retired from UPS in Fayetteville after 28 years of faithful service.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Joan E. Smith; his daughters, Holly Person and Christine Gray and husband, John Eric Gray, his sisters, Dorothy Grant and Barbara Carlson; his grandchildren, Logan Gray King and husband, Josh King, Lauren Hurley and husband, Nick Hurley, and Hailie Person; and his great-grandchildren, Ryleigh Hurley and Kaylee Hurley.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at Wakeminster Baptist Church, 13221 Old Creedmoor Road, Raleigh, NC 27613. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the church.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 8, 2026, at Lafayette Memorial Park, 2301 Ramsey Street, Fayetteville, NC 28301.
Norman will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his generous spirit, and the many cherished memories he created with those who knew and loved him.
