Odessa Hubbard Hughes, 86, of Fayetteville, passed away on Thursday, April 6, 2023.

Odessa was born September 3, 1936, in Stedman, NC to Wiley Bunce and Neta Kate Hubbard, and spent her childhood playing with her cousins.  She and her husband, Edward raised four children, enjoyed church activities and especially enjoyed lunches and shopping with friends.  She was a substitute teacher in the Cumberland County Schools for many years.

Odessa was preceded in death by her husband, Edward M. Hughes, Sr.; a sister, Janet H. McDonald; and sons-in-law, Clay Tallman and Jim Blanton.

She is survived by two sons, Edward M. Hughes, Jr. (Janice) and James R. Hughes (Renee); two daughters, Brenda Sue Blanton and Valerie Tallman; sister, Gilda Grey Roumillat; 9 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Monday, April 10, 2023, from 1 to 2 pm at Eureka Baptist Church.  A funeral service will follow at 2pm in the church with burial afterward at Lafayette Memorial Park on Ramsey St.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Eureka Baptist Church in her memory or to Bayada Hospice, 2550 Ravenhill Dr. Suite 202, Fayetteville, NC 28303

The family wishes to thank Bayada Hospice for their support during Odessa's illness, especially her nurse, Jennifer, for the love and support to the family.  She was a favorite of mama's.
