A strong work ethic was instilled in Oscar at a very young age. That work ethic was also instilled in his four children and that has served them well in their life endeavors. At ten years old Oscar's first job was delivering news papers on a walking route. At eleven years old he started working at Knowles Supermarket delivering groceries to area homes on his bicycle. As a young teenager a special man saw his potential and took him under his wing and taught him to cut meat. When he turned 18 Oscar took what he learned and began his 37 year career at A& P rising thru the ranks of management to become Meat Merchandiser. During his time with A&P Oscar mentored several of his associates who went on to become successful meat market managers themselves. He was deeply appreciative of the friendships he developed over the years with these men. Oscar retired from the A&P at age 55 and then became even more involved in real estate transactions that kept him busy, even with Alzheimer's he never retired completely. He was a graduate of Central High School in 1955. He played Baseball and Basketball for Central's Yellow Jackets. He was known as "Sure Shot Huggins."
Oscar was a member of the Cumberland County 4-H Club and as an adult was a member of the Fayetteville Independent Light Infantry. He volunteered with the Gideons because he believed strongly in the mission to spread the Gospel. He served on two mission trips to France and one to Cuba. He supported his daughters on five different mission trips to Haiti. He was a member of Baywood Church.\\
