Owen L. Cherry, 70, of Stedman, passed away Monday, August 20, 2007. He was a retired Army Special Forces Master Sergeant and a veteran of the Vietnam War. He was the owner/operator of Owen Cherry Construction Co. and a member of Temple Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 pm Thursday evening, August 23, 2007, at Temple Baptist Church. The funeral service will follow a 7 pm with Dr. Robert Lewis officiating. The burial with full military honors will be held Friday morning, August 24, 2007, at 10 am in Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery in Spring Lake. Mr. Cherry is survived by his wife, Dorothy C. Cherry, of the home; a daughter, Yvonne Houde of Camden, SC; a son, Owen F. Cherry, of Rock Hill, SC; four stepdaughters, Debra Degalis of Japan, Sabrina Grant of Fayetteville, Susan Evans of Pikeville, and Pamela Byrd of Fayetteville; a stepson, Billy Manning of Stedman; a sister, Judy Cahoon of Virginia, and three grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Temple Baptist Church, 3159 Sanderosa Road, Fayetteville NC 28312; or to the American Cancer Society, 930-B Wellness Drive, Greenville, NC 27834.
