Parley Bryan Rasmussen Jr. of Clayton and Valle Crucis died May 6. He was born on November 2, 1924, in Chicago, Illinois. He was the son of Parley and Irene Parker Rasmussen. Parley served with the US Marines in the South Pacific in 1943-1945. He graduated from North Carolina State University in 1949 with a degree in Bio-Chemistry. Parley worked for the Department of Agriculture as a chemist with the Standards Division for 38 years. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother John. He is survived by his wife, Jean Koonce Rasmussen of Clayton and Valle Crucis; daughter, Meghan Rasmussen of Selma; his step-daughter, Jennifer Cain and husband James, of Lake Lure; step-grandson Jamie Cain. He is also survived by cousins, Jo Ann McAllister and husband Dr. John Mac McAllister of Raleigh; Col. John Wray and wife Marion of Raleigh; Dr. Ann Parker Maust and husband Bob of Richmond, Virginia; and John Parker and wife Sue of Arcadia, Florida.
